SOMARAKIS FILIPPOS

ABOUT ME

I was born in Heraklion on 15-02-1973 and I am married with Katerina Vassilaki. Together we have two children, George aged 17 years old and Maria aged 14.

I am a high school graduate and a licensed aircraft engineer and I have been working at the airport of Heraklion, N. Kazantzakis since 2000 at the aircraft refuelling area.

In the last 25 years I have been living in Heraklion, where I have been active in the shooting field, active member in the shooting events since 1993 with lots of participations in multiple competitions in the Panhellenic target championship in men’s category 25m standard, in men’s 300m riffle, but also in the competition of practical shooting in standard major firearm category and open major rifle.

Through hard training and numerous participations in Panhellenic championships, I have won many distinctions in all the above categories. 

My love and passion for the sport have turned shooting into a lifestyle for both my family and me, while in 2007 I successfully passed the school of instructors of SK.O.E., where I have been constantly transferring my knowledge on shooting to students – shooters ever since. At the same time I continuously try to improve my skills by taking lessons from two of the best shooters – instructors of Greece, Tyrakis Ioannis and Kavouklis Nikos.

Furthermore, at every training I improvise with my own systems as far as self-defense is concerned by watching world champions and by taking from them what’s best for both my needs and my students’.

More generally target shooting is a very generous sport for everybody’s personality, health and safety.
